All about

Carl was introduced to music at an early age. One of his strongest first memories is sitting with his father listening to recordings of tenor Jussi Björling singing Italian opera, and to pianist Alexander Brailowsky’s passionate interpretations of Chopin. Alongside piano and trumpet studies he also enjoyed improvising and writing his own music.

After piano studies in Sweden, Carl moved to Florence, Italy, at the age of 18 to study with renowned pianist Pietro Rigacci. After five years of hard work and intricate technical studies Carl took his bachelor’s degree in solo piano at the Conservatory of Music.

Further studies followed at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Andrzej Jasinski and with Radoslav Kvapil in Prague. Carl also developed a strong interest in chamber music at this time and completed chamber music courses with members of Trio di Trieste, Dario di Rosa and Renato Zanettovich.

Carl has had the opportunity to perform with many leading chamber musicians, such as Dimitri Ashkenazy, Sergey Antonov, Stanislav Apolin and the David Oistrakh String Quartet. His musical collaborations have taken him to many countries, Nordiska Huset in Reikjavik, Sala de Conciertos Luis Ángel Arango in Bogotà, Prokofiev Museum in Moscow, Tel Aviv Conservatory in Israel among others.

Carl has received several prizes and awards, including the cultural prize for the region of Sörmland, cultural ambassador of his hometown Katrineholm, and grants from the Royal Academy of Music.

In recent years Carl has developed an interest in more inventive forms of expression, using his foundations in classical music in combination with synthesizer sounds and percussion to create new soundscapes and musical pathways.

Carl has always had a strong interest in bringing music to new audiences as well as promoting talented young musicians. He is artistic director of the Julita International Chamber Music Festival (founded in 1994) and the Swedish International Duo Competition (founded in 2002).
